Winning for Women at the University of Sheffield
The University of Sheffield was the winner of the 2007 Opportunity Now Education Sector Award, for its Women Academic Returners' Programme
"We firmly believe that having diversity and inclusion integrated into our business strategy will ensure we continue to be successful in highly competitive global markets for students, staff and research. Our organisational commitment and individual responsibilities are confirmed in our equality and diversity strategy -- 'Excellence through Inclusion'. Our cultural change work focuses on creating a supportive campus community which realises the talent and potential of all.
The Department of HR, working with colleagues across the University, focuses on engaging and educating all staff via a wide range of activities and leading edge initiatives which challenge the status quo and develop further our profile as a great employer. Our award-winning Women Academic Returners' Programme is an excellent example of how direct action to redress equality imbalance has very significant, tangible benefits to both the individual and the University."
Quote from Rosie Valerio, Director of Human Resources Management at the University of Sheffield
