Case Study: Flexible Working - Addleshaw Goddard
Addleshaw Goddard encourages and promotes flexible working across all areas of the firm. Flexibility is not limited to one gender or to those with caring responsibilities, but is available to all, and considered on a case by case basis, balanced against the needs of the firm and clients.
A Pathfinder has been launched in one of the legal practice areas to find solutions to the practical issues associated with flexible working, such as the use of IT and premises. 15 volunteers, from a cross-section of roles, are taking part. Pathfinders have been moved from their existing offices into a desk sharing environment and have been provided with full IT support as well as guidelines dealing with the logistical issues around how they approach and carry out their work.
Addleshaw Goddard has also looked at what flexible working means for senior staff. More partners, both male and female are working flexibly and the firm is pro-actively recruiting senior people to join on a flexible basis.
A communication programme is under way which acknowledges the firm’s commitment to flexible working and encourages more discussion at team meetings, management meetings and informal networking groups across the firm.
To enable home working the firm has more than doubled its investment in IT equipment.
The Pathfinder is still under way and a Project Team, with representatives from the Division involved as well as from across the wider firm, is monitoring progress, acting on feedback as and when necessary. Feedback so far has been predominantly positive and the firm expects to move to the next phase of widening the Pathfinder to more of its people in the near future.
