With the help of European funding, Aberdeen College ran a training course designed to address the gender imbalance in the computing and IT industry The course was supported by locally based employers, such as Shell and IBM, to ensure that the skills developed matched employers’ needs. The course ran for 40 weeks including a work placement and covered subjects such as developing personal effectiveness and working in a team, as well as a wide range of computing skills
Although the course was marketed at women, it was open to all. 12 students signed up. 3 women and 1 man completed it at HND level. One of the women got work with BT as a network administrator and another 2 applied for university All the participants were offered work experience at the College which counted as a module towards the HND.
