The importance of supply chain diversity
Source: Race for Opportunity
''Strengthening our diverse communities will ultimately contribute to economic growth'' says Sandra Kerr, OBE, National Director, Race for Opportunity.
8% of all SME's in the UK are owned/led by an ethnic minority. In London alone, nearly a quarter (24%) of the Capital's SME's are BAME. Race for Opportunity, the campaign for race equality from Business in the Community campaigns for employers to promote and increase diversity and inclusion in their supplier chain.
In partnership with Business in the Community's Marketplace and following on from a joint workshop where practical case studies were shared to supply chain practitioners, including MITIE. Race for Opportunity and Marketplace have produced a new briefing paper:
Supply Chain Diveristy and Inclusion : Ensuring equal opportunities for diverse businesses and employees.

“Since Business in the Community began working with businesses on responsible supply chain management, we’ve seen companies gradually shift from managing risk to proactively seeking opportunities to enhance their positive impacts. Supply chain diversity provides a tangible way for businesses to forge stronger links with communities, whilst at the same time creating business benefits,” said Jo Daniels, Marketplace Director, Business in the Community.
