Migrant Workers: Advice on Attraction.
Attraction is about creating a welcoming employer brand that reflects a commitment to employing and developing migrant workers.
For any good employer, recruiting a migrant worker is no different to recruiting any other employee, after removing any access issues created by the geographical locations of potential employees. The recruitment of migrant workers can be vital for some organisations to solve their hard-to-fill vacancies and many organisations rely on migrant workers for the key skills and experience they bring which are not available in their own areas. There is the need for responsible recruitment whilst acting within international agreements.
Points to consider:
- When advertising for positions, aim to promote these as widely as possible. Job centres will assist with ensuring that adverts are placed both locally and in other countries simultaneously.
- Developing connections with community groups and speaking to your current migrant workers can be an effective and efficient way of making contact with hard to reach groups –many migrant workers discover potential employers through family or friend connections.
- Think about running recruitment information sessions to assist potential employees with completing applications and monitoring information, these could be run as webinars for overseas applicants.
- Consider developing your website to be more ‘user friendly’, think about translating the job vacancy sections.
